Safety Considerations

People with dementia can lack insight into their safety so I try to make my blankets as safe as possible. Although a lot of care and attention to detail has gone into making each blanket I always recommend that when someone with dementia is using one of my products they should be supervised at all times. This is because I use lots of small items such as beads and buttons and also longer cords and shoe laces.

Some precautions I take are-

-I will repeatedly sew over a piece of cord/trim or button to ensure that it can withstand people pulling at them.

-A lot of the smaller objects are concealed within fabric so although they can be felt, the person is not touching them directly. Again, things like the sensory tubes will be sewn on securely so should not come loose.

-I try to use everyday objects so the person with dementia is familiar with the items and more likely to use them correctly.

-A lot of the items I use are designed to be child friendly so have been pre-made with safety in mind.

-I will test the quality of my blanket before I post it. I will pull on everything and ensure it is secure.

-I enclose a safety notice on my Etsy listing and in the parcel itself which states that supervision is recommended.

If you have bought one of my blankets and notice a safety/quality concern when it arrives, please get in touch with me straight away and I will do my best to resolve the situation.

If you notice that something becomes loose or broken, then either remove the loose object or stop use immediately.

IT IS UP TO THE BUYER TO CHECK THE BLANKET FOR ANY SAFETY CONCERNS BEFORE EACH USE. THE BUYER ASSUMES ALL RESPONSIBILITIES.
